How we determine the World's Top Bars rankings and scoring system
World's Top Bars Ranking
Our comprehensive ranking system evaluates bars across multiple criteria to create the definitive global ranking.
- • Real customer Google reviews form the basis of the ranking.
- • Industry recognition and awards are factored in.
- • Cocktail-focussed bars only
- • No "pay-to-win", no direct industry involvement, just well-loved bars.
- • Exceptional service quality, and diversity standards are required.
Top Bars Score
Our unique scoring algorithm combines multiple data points to create a comprehensive rating for each bar.
- • Customer reviews, weighted by quantity of reviews.
- • Industry recognition & awards.
- • Toby's review and rating added into the mix.
Scores range from 0-100, with higher scores indicating exceptional quality and recognition.
Our system allows us to add new bars into the list at any time, if they meet our specific criteria. See more below on the process of creating a Longlist, Shortlist, and the final ranking.
Ranking Process Overview
Our Evaluation Process
Longlist:
Must have been:
- On the World's 50 Best Bars (1-100)
- OR on the Pinnacle Guide
- OR visited and reviewed personally by Toby
Then, disqualify all bars with:
- Under 4.3 google score
- Under 240 google reviews
- Venues where cocktails are not their primary focus
- Multiples of the same chain of bar (e.g. Sexy Fish - best location can remain)
- Bars with significant evidence of discrimination towards certain guests
